Jasvinder (Jazz) Kaur – President, Urban Collective Steering Board
Jazz Kaur received her Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the California State University , Sacramento in 2003, with an emphasis in Urban Leadership and is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Organization and Leadership at the University of San Francisco. She is an adjunct-faculty member in the College of Education at California State University. In addition, she holds a full-time position with the second largest IT services company, Electronic Data Systems (EDS), as the Medi-Cal Integrated Auditor. She was the founder and Director of the nationally awarded EDS Job Shadow Program. The program has received multiple awards locally and nationally, including Most Significant Impact award from Linking Education and Economic Development (LEED) and a Business Partner award from SCUSD. In 2003, she was the awardee of the 2003 National Women of Color award in Educational Leadership. Her work also involves volunteer efforts with community-based organizations and schools across the Sacramento region.
Ms. Kaur has presented in her areas of her expertise, which include urban leadership, school-to-career transformation, project-based management, business and organizational change management using Kaizen methodologies, IT compliance awareness, and motivational speaking.
Brandan Jermelle Harris – President, Urban Collective Steering Board
Brandan Jermelle Harris received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University located in Tallahassee, Florida. He majored in Secondary Education with an emphasis in History. As a product of a single parent home, Brandan was inspired and motivated to succeed by his mother. At an early age he was taught that education was an outlet to a realm of endless opportunities.
Despite being rejected by the college of his choice, FAMU gave Mr. Harris an opportunity to re-apply by submitting an essay. After seeking assistance from various instructors, he received his acceptance letter a few months later. Through hard work and dedication, he not only earned an academic scholarship for his stellar classroom performance, but he graduated with honors as well.
The impact that his past instructors have had on his life led him to enter the field of education. He has taught U.S. History at the middle school level for 9 years. He has spent the past six teaching 8th grade History at Franklin Middle School in Vallejo, CA. His main goal is to give back to the community and assist in closing the achievement gap. He is a kind hearted individual who is passionate about what he does….”Teach.”
